No doubt many readers will find the thermodynamic realities that we are analysing in this series of postings rather disturbing, even shocking. They may well react very emotionally to them, even going into denial. Let’s stress it bluntly again, while economics and money are largely founded on beliefs, strong beliefs, superstitions even, thermodynamics is not. It is the outcome of thorough critical analyses and relentless testing over the last two centuries. Thermodynamics is increasingly considered as a “meta-science” underpinning all of physics.[1] Without applications of thermodynamics none of the present industrialised world would exist and most of those who believe in economics would not be alive today.
Deniers may well deny all their heart’s content; denying can only prolong the agony – as one says colloquially, “deal with reality or reality will deal with you”. Facing the emerging realities is a prerequisite to seizing the opportunities they present to develop urgently required solutions.
In the next series of postings we will now explore:
The current political vacuum;
The solar paradox of abundant energy we could tap into;
The know how already available to unlock real wealth;
The choice we must all make between prevailing cognitive failure and ensuring our future;
The necessity to overcome present power overshoot.
